GMU (Fairfax)  is a young university that, in just a short time, has made impressive strides in size, stature and influence. Today, as Virginia’s largest public research university, they are setting the benchmark for a bold, progressive education that serves the needs of students and communities.

Flyer Designs

Goals:

1) Raise awareness on Food Insecurity
2) Redesign existing flyer
Target Audience:

Who:
 GMU Students
Age: 18 - 26

Topic: Food insecurity is a recognized health crisis within the U.S., with more than 42 million Americans found food insecure in 2015. Within the state of Virginia, one in eight children suffers from food insecurity, which in turn affects their growth and development. Here in Fairfax less than five percent of the population can be considered food insecure, but this low percentage still accounts for over 50,000 residents within the county that struggle to meet their needs

Goals
1) Raise awareness locally about the Environmental Injustice of the Anacostia River in Washington DC.
2) Storytelling
Topic: Everyone, near and far, hears of D.C.’s Potomac River, famous for Washington’s crossing or being strolled past when in Georgetown, it is integral to the city. But there is another river, a forgotten river: the Anacostia River- located in a poor, black D.C. community. This community has an average household income half of the city’s and has housed many of the largest polluters.
While both have been largely susceptible to pollution, historically, far more has been done to upkeep the Potomac, while the Anacostia has fallen behind and must now play catch up. It has been left to local grassroots communities- like the Anacostia Watershed Society and the Sierra Club to advocate for its maintenance.
